Andrew Clay & Rob Watson - Tikky Tikky Boom Boom

179:03 minutes (163.93 MB)

Tikky Tikky Boom Boom is a radio show first broadcast on FussFM on 18 May 2008 between 10pm and 1am. It was devised and presented by Andrew Clay with Rob Watson.

The title of the show is taken from a song ( 'The Pigmy Song (Tikky Tikky Boom Boom)') on the album New Sounds in Rock 'N Roll (1958) by Chaino, an exotica classic that attempts to fuse African percussion with fashionable pop music. The use of the song as the show's title and theme tune is a reference to the lounge / exotica / easy strand of music that forms the spine of the show's playlist. The show is a development of the improvised 'Radio Stilton' or 'Stilton FM' sessions that were put together by the presenters from a stack of lounge CDs (the 'cheese' or 'cheesy tracks') and played out over the PA system from the old radio studio in the Queen's Building on De Montfort University open days in the mid-2000s. The onomatopoeic qualities of the show's title are resonant of percussion and clockwork explosions, a statement of intent to make an impact and to explore all things audio.
